Cakes, Bakes, and Me

New Year Resolution

Before I tell you my resolution, first an update on the millionaires dessert. It was gorgeous, hubby said I ‘nailed it’ and son gave me a ‘Paul Hollywood’ style handshake. We were spoiled for puds, as my daughter in law’s first attempt at sticky toffee pudding was also a big hit, and Mum made her trademark trifle too! We had a lovely meal, cocktails and a good few laughs ❤ I just about had room for a small piece of the Madeira ‘test’ cake, which I was also pleased with, so all is well 😊

And now for the resolution, or rather, the decision I’ve made regarding my baking forays. After reading lots of information about cake business from home, on other people’s blogs etc, I’ve realised that (a) it’s not what I want, and (b) given my condition, it’s not a sustainable idea. I love baking, and I’m enjoying learning new skills, but I want to do it for the pleasure, and in my own sweet time. I’ve loved baking cakes for other people, and coming up with new ideas, but I need the freedom to say ‘no’ when I’m in pain, or ‘yes’ but I may need more time, as I have to go at my own pace. So although I’ll keep making cakes for people, it will be as a hobbyist rather than to make money. And I’ll charge for the ingredients, and overheads (I don’t want to lose money either!) and just carry on enjoying it. The last few years have taught me that taking pleasure in the things I can do, and not fixating on the things I can’t do anymore, is very important to me on a psychological level. I’m happy with achievable goals, and I have to be honest with myself about how much I can physically do too.

So, that’s where I’m at. Family, Baking, Panto and the odd blog = contented me 😊

Till next time

Stay safe and healthy

Debbie ❤
