Cakes, Bakes, and Me

Spring Cupcakes

Hello! I know it’s been a while, but here I am to catch up on the last week 😊 So last Tuesday I made 48 pretty cupcakes for a ladies Church lunch. I was invited to join them but because I had another project on the go, sadly I had to decline πŸ˜– However, I do have the date for the next one in my diary, so I’m looking forward to that.

The other project was my first ever 3 tier cake! I know! Eek! The couple I was making it for were the lovely Mick and Sue, whom I have known for many years. This year, they were both celebrating 60th birthdays, and their 40th (ruby) wedding anniversary. They wanted a cake to reflect the 50’s when they met, and the 70’s when they married. As usual, I was still ‘tweaking’ at the last minute, so didn’t get a picture before I took it to the event, so the light’s not good. It was my firstly time transporting a cake of this size too (lessons to be learned!) but it did get there with minimal damage thank goodness. The ‘jukebox’ got nudged off centre and the trim round the top of the middle cake is slightly wonky…..But you get the gist. Every cake I make, I learn from, and I guess that’s how you get better!

As you can see, I couldn’t resist having a play with it. Not sure it was an improvement though lol. Anyway, the top was red velvet and represented the 50’s with a Jukebox, vinyl records and some music notes (you can’t really see them though, as they were on the sides) The middle cake is chocolate and has a 70’s ‘flower power’ theme, with disco dancer silhouettes, and the bottom was vanilla decorated with hearts and ’60’ and ’40’. I really enjoyed making it, but seriously underestimated how long it would take for the ‘finishing touches’ 😊 Mick is a much better photographer than me, and he took some photos too, so hopefully his pics came out better!

Well that’s all from me for now, but I’m hosting a ‘Red Nose Comic Relief Bake Sale’ at Greenbrook Methodist Church on Saturday, so there will be more!

Stay safe and healthy
