Cakes, Bakes, and Me

Do you play ‘Fortnite’?

I have to admit, I’ve heard of it…how could I not have? It’s everywhere! It seems to be the new trend in video gaming, especially with kids.

This particular cake was requested by my friend Amanda for her grandson’s 11th birthday. Amanda came to my Breast Cancer Care fundraiser a month or so ago, and I offered a custom cake as a raffle prize, which she won. I was delighted to have a go at the Fortnite theme, and I think it came out pretty well 😀

Special thanks to Billie from Sweetie Darling Cakes YouTube channel for the inspirational video tutorial, and to Indulgent Cupcake Co on Pinterest for some of the other details I added.

The cake is a vanilla Victoria sponge in 2 x 10″ layers, filled with buttercream, crumb coated with 50:50 white chocolate ganache/buttercream. It’s covered with Renshaw’s fondant coloured with Wilton Kelly Green gel paste colour. I just added more green to make the trees. The llama was a challenge! I added tylose to the fondant and cocktail sticks held the legs and head in place. I made it 3 days in advance to make sure it dried. Feedback from the recipient is that he loved it 😀 Phew!

Another busy baking week coming up as I’m holding a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Saturday at Greenbrook Methodist Church community room. I’m a member of the Panto society and Theatre Groups, and they are kindly allowing me to host the event there.
